ACET Fundraiser – Cork to Calais Solidarity

Throughout the past few months, we are all saddened by images of displaced women, men and children arriving in Europe, fleeing their native countries due to violence and oppression. In light of the current humanitarian crisis, a fundraiser was fittingly organised by ACET’s Camille to raise money for the Cork – Calais solidarity volunteer group.

Over 60 people were in attendance at the quiz that took place last Thursday 24th in Clancy’s Bar. ACET students, staff and friends, both old and new came together for an entertaining night with quiz master Tony. An impressive €1,165 was raised between the quiz entry fees and raffle. The proceeds were donated to a local group of volunteers that will travel from Cork to Calais bringing with them supplies and aid for those living in dire conditions in the port town of Calais.

Here in Cork, momentum is building for the upcoming Cork Women’s Mini Marathon taking place on Sunday, 27th September.

Initial interest among the staff members and students has been very positive, and while it is still in the very early stages of planning, we are hoping that the school will have a good number of participants.

Marathon start line

The 5 mile race will start in the city centre on Patrick’s Street and the route will carry participants throughout the city to finish up at John F Kennedy Park.

Signup sheets have been posted on the notice boards in school to gauge interest, and plans for training groups and running schedules are also in the pipeline.

For international visitors, participating in this event will be an unforgettable experience that will add to the fond memories of the time spent in Cork!

Charity Coffee Morning held at ACET

This year in celebration of 40 years of success, ACET has been giving back to the city we love. In addition to the many other fundraising events held throughout the year, a charity coffee morning was held at ACET this morning in support of Cork’s 96fm Radiothon.

Fundraiser held at ACET in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation

Red Hot Day @ ACET

Irish Heart Foundation fundraiser

Last Friday 13th of February ACET students and staff dedicated some time during their lunch break to raise money for a very worthy cause, The Irish Heart Foundation. The fundraiser coincided with the beginning of Valentine’s weekend and was fittingly called Red Hot Day!

Some familiar ACET faces Michael, Patrick, Oisin and Kevin from the teaching staff underwent a makeover in what we called ACET’s Next Top Model. Once the beautification was complete, all four modelled on our ‘catwalk’ at reception and entertained us all.

The winners of the raffle were also announced last Friday. Some excellent prizes were kindly donated by our neighbours on MacCurtain Street including vouchers for Gourmet Burger Bistro, The Shelbourne Bar, The Cork Arms, Pronto Cafe, Paddywagon Tourism and Greene’s Restaurant. Tickets were sold throughout the week and the response from students and staff was excellent.
